Redesigning employability

We're working with a broad range of people, services and organisations across the city, using service design to re-think the existing employability structure in Glasgow.

In line with with the No One Left Behind policy from the Scottish Government, We are using co-design principles to explore: "How might we join up employability services for better delivery that puts people at the heart of everything".

We have spoken to service users, frontline staff, council staff, employers and the LEP throughout the process, utilising various engagement methods such as workshops, focus groups, interviews and surveys. We have gained an understanding of the barriers currently in place and the opportunities that could come from an improved service which meets the needs of all stakeholders.

By creating more joined-up employability services where decisions are informed by the needs of those using the services, Glasgow’s citizens will have services that meet their requirements, enabled by service providers working in partnership.

We wanted to engage with empathy, patience, understanding and always value each person’s voice, unique experience and perspective.

To capture insights and co-design with decision makers, service providers and employers, we used more formal engagement methods, such as workshops, interviews and surveys. These methods provided us with a large volume of information, while respecting the limited time of those involved.

The reports

Over the course of the last year, we collected an extensive level of information regarding where they issues lie with connecting employability services, along with opportunities to do something different. This information is detailed within two reports:

Next steps

The next step in the process is to consider which opportunities will make the most impact and should take priority when taking into account the council's available resources and where the CCI is best placed to support.

The employability team has been working with the CCI for around a year now and we’ve had a really positive experience of the Team and the way they work. Their approach is really interactive and innovative and they are always helpful and quick to respond to any queries.

They’ve helped us move our project on in a way that we just wouldn’t have been able to do without their support.
